Last night during the halftime of the American football game between the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings, the final trailer for one of the most anticipated films of the year premiered: Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Adding to the excitement, director Rian Johnson had warned fans during the week not to watch the trailer if they wanted to remain completely free of spoilers, since it reveals some of the film's inner workings. At Neo Teo, we tell you what this new installment of Star Wars brings.
Wow! So many things happen in this latest trailer! Where do we start? Well, first we warn those who don't want to know anything about The Last Jedi's plot not to keep reading. Supporting this stance, the film's director himself, Rian Johnson, said on his Twitter account to avoid the trailer if you want to arrive free of spoilers. However, he later retracted with a second tweet: "Forget everything I said and watch it, watch it, watch it."

This trailer shows us two well-marked paths, both reflecting the same thing: the Force, fear, and darkness. The first focuses on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and her awe-inspiring power shown at the end of Episode VII. When she trains with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on the planet Ahch-To, he is shaken by her "raw force" and compares it to his nephew Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), saying that he "hadn't scared him enough" but that she did. The hidden power of Rey is something that Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) will use to seduce her to the dark side, as seen in the trailer, and just like with Luke in "Return of the Jedi," we will see whether light prevails over darkness.
Making a comparison with the first trilogy, we can deduce how Snoke will use Kylo to seduce Rey to the dark side, just as the Emperor did with Vader to seduce Luke in Episodes V and VI. To avoid Vader's mistake, Kylo must eliminate his past, as he announces in the trailer, hinting that it might be the end for the Princess of Alderaan, Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher). Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, confirmed that Fisher will not appear in the final episode, set to premiere in two years, so this theory carries even more weight.
In the trailer, we also see Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), who refers to the Rebels as "the spark that will light the fire that will devastate the First Order," and Finn (John Boyega) in a dispute with Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), who, despite having become more secondary characters, have an interesting appeal to the plot. And of course we will have epic and impactful battles, AT-ATs flying through the air, explosions, shots, Chewbacca, Porgs, and other new creatures, and everything that Star Wars always gives us.
The biggest question in this film is: Will Rey turn to the dark side? With only two months left until the release date, and that final scene where Rey tells Kylo that she "needs someone to show her her place," we are left with even more uncertainty. However, an important detail is that the trailer's editing is so well done that it might be something different and misleading in the movie, just like with Episode VII.
The big day will be December 15, and in the meantime we will be biting our nails thinking about everything that could happen in this new installment.
