Ladies and gentlemen, the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con has exploded. With all the comic and science fiction material taking over screens (film, TV, and streaming), it was logical to assume that this year’s enthusiasm for the convention would be impressive. One of the many stars parading through its halls is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the folks at Disney had the courtesy to share with fans a fabulous “behind-the-scenes” look.
The amount of content is so great that you don’t know exactly where to start. Mad Max: Fury Road is shaping up to be the best film of the year, although the box office didn’t accompany as expected. Exactly the opposite happened with Jurassic World, receiving more modest reviews in exchange for 1,400 million dollars, the second highest gross of the year so far. The jury is still deliberating on Terminator: Genisys, which basically bet all its chips on the international market. Pixar returned to its antics with Inside Out, Minions advances like a tank, Marvel will fire its last bullet of the year with Ant-Man (which opens on July 24 in Spain), and on the horizon we see things like MI: Rogue Nation, Fantastic Four, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2. Now... if there is anything that can wipe all this off the map that we have named, it’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Disney knows perfectly well that it has a winning card in the return of Star Wars, but it also understands that it must handle each dose with care. Under no circumstances could it escape the year’s public event, San Diego Comic-Con 2015, and the third trailer is further along in the calendar, therefore it decided to present this excellent “behind-the-scenes” feature. The simple fact of placing Mark Hamill speaking first for twenty seconds made us jump out of our seats, but we cannot ignore the traces of unseen material that this video of “almost” four minutes leaves along the way. Digital and analog, bytes and miniatures, green screens and the relentless desert sand. Among all that, a glimpse at Harrison, another at Carrie, Simon Pegg reacting as if he were a fan infiltrated on set, and the feeling of “dream come true” for many there, from the main actors and actresses to the person in charge of cleaning.
Did you finish watching it? Good. My recommendation is that you watch it again... six or seven times to be sure. With each repetition, a new detail emerges, feeding the impatient monster inside us. Just in case: December 17, Argentina, Mexico, and Peru. One day later, Spain and the United States.
