These Nudes Don't Exist

We all agree that artificial intelligence has enormous potential, but at the end of the day, it depends entirely on its applications. In recent years we've seen a certain trend toward art, with films, rap songs, and award-winning paintings. However, AIs are also good at transforming and inventing things like landscapes, faces… and nudes. "These Nudes Don't Exist" is a new service that does exactly that: For the sum of one dollar, anyone interested can generate a nude woman with the help of generative adversarial networks.

We announced it when we talked about the PepeNude software in the middle of last year: The genie is out of the bottle, and no one will put it back. The technology initially explored the risks associated with creating fake news and fake videos of politicians, but with minimal adjustments and intense training, those same platforms began to generate nude women. DeepNude literally exploded on the Web. The aforementioned PepeNude only kept up the pace. And now, it's the turn of "These Nudes Don't Exist".

This is all we can show, or the "overlords" of Mountain View will eat our liver

It's a startup that offers a single service: For the fixed sum of one dollar, its generative adversarial networks will create a nude woman, white, slender, between 20 and 40 years old, smiling, and with breasts of "normal size". The user adds her to their cart, and a "seed" number confirms it's a unique model. From there, its owner can do whatever they want, even use it in other projects. There don't seem to be any restrictions regarding copyright or distribution rights.

The service's managers admit that in its current state it's little more than a novelty, and the one-dollar cost is only meant to cover the energy consumed during processing. In the future, the plan is to add more poses and video support, likely giving rise to a new era of "adult content" generated with artificial intelligence. They also insist they only use images available in the public domain, or acquired from "reliable sources", which always raises doubts.

What about men? Although there will be a dataset to generate male nudes later, the portal's creators say "there isn't a big demand". Of course, sites like "These Nudes Don't Exist" will only resurface issues like the ethical use of artificial intelligence, and the female body as "merchandise" or "canvas" to modify at will. But this won't end here, just as it didn't end with DeepNude. If this site falls, others won't take long to appear.

(Editor's note: The site was having some access issues, but it seems to be working fine now.)
