Toyota plans to integrate Waymo hardware at Takaoka
Toyota plans to assemble the bZ4X vehicles and integrate Waymo hardware at its Takaoka plant in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The plan puts both stages at the same factory. The Verge reported that Waymo previously bought completed vehicles and added sensors, computers and wiring at a separate facility.
Toyota’s 19-second studio video is in Japanese and shows a pre-production bZ4X with Waymo sensors mounted around the vehicle. An on-screen notice says the design may differ.
Japan testing is planned for 2027
Toyota and Waymo plan initial testing and validation in Japan in 2027. Toyota also describes deployment to the UK and other Waymo-served markets in subsequent years. The announcement places the Japan phase in testing and validation, followed by those later deployment plans.
Passenger features Toyota has named
Toyota describes generous rear legroom, automatic doors, a power liftgate and ambient lighting as comfort and accessibility features for passengers in the bZ4X.
