Camoatí honey is far richer than bee honey. I know this firsthand; nobody told me. And I feel sorry for the camoatí, but if they build a nest so close to my home, putting my whole family at risk, they'll see my most violent (and gluttonous) side.
The procedure to evict and extract honey from these invasive little wasps is as simple as it is primitive. You take a long stick, about a meter or so, to use as a spear. At the tip, you wrap a cloth and set it on fire. Then all that's left is to have good aim. Camoatí build their nests on tree branches, so it might take a couple of tries.
When the spear pierces the nest, you just have to wait for the little black wasps to abandon their former home, suffocated by the smoke. Fifteen minutes should be enough. When no bug is left buzzing around, you climb the tree, cut the thingy that attaches the nest to the branch, and... yum yum yum!
I strongly recommend, once you get the treasure, eating it like a savage (like the man in this photo). None of that fancy business. Suck the honey directly from the wax cells, warm and smoky, nice and liquid and delicious. You might eat a little larva in the process, but don't worry, more protein! You throw the leftovers to your dogs, who also love honey and enjoy chewing the wax. Nothing goes to waste!
