Technology and education can join forces in different ways, encouraging the little ones on their path towards careers that could be highly complex like engineering and programming. Obviously, such a process requires many tools and appropriate introduction packages, among which we find the Volta Flyer, an airplane with integrated solar panels and high impact resistance.
The Educational Debate
One of the most interesting aspects within the world of education is the enormous difference in opinions, suggestions, changes, and techniques. Of course, we all want a more complete and useful education, but at the same time there is no doubt that we are facing a work in progress. Some experts even believe that too much emphasis is being placed on science and technology, since they do not guarantee a job as it has been said. Honestly, I think that uncertainty applies to any career, and it also doesn't change the fact that in the future we will need more engineers and programmers. Of course... we can't do anything with just good wishes. We also have to make room for different tools, such as the Volta Flyer airplane.
A Simple Toy with Serious Potential
At first glance one can interpret it as a simple toy airplane, but in reality its potential goes much further. Students will have to assemble the airplane on their own, following precise instructions and studying each of the parts. The process does not require any kind of glue or screws, and in less than twenty minutes it will be ready to fly. By far, the most important part of the Volta Flyer is the solar panel that provides energy to its motor. All each child and/or adult has to do is give the airplane 90 seconds of advantage under sunlight, and then throw it into the air. If the impact turns out to be a bit harder than expected, the Volta Flyer will partially disassemble to avoid major damage.
Crowdfunding for the Volta Flyer
Like other educational projects, the Volta Flyer seeks help from Kickstarter to start its first production phase. The project leaders need exactly 39 thousand dollars, and with almost a month ahead they have already raised 25 percent. The price for each Volta Flyer is only 40 dollars, with free shipping within the United States, and limited international shipping. If all goes well, we will see the first units fly in March 2016.
