On November 4, Anthropic employee Addy Osmani acknowledged that Claude Code had pushed back on some game projects it should have built, according to his post. The rule at issue was intended to steer Claude Opus 5.5 away from recreating someone else’s specific game.

What the Claude Code rule targeted

On October 30, Osmani said two sentences had been added to Claude Code’s prompt for Claude Opus 5.5. He described the goal as discouraging recreations of another person’s specific existing game. Original games, projects based on a genre, and work using a user’s own designs and assets were meant to remain within the intended scope.

A creator experimented with their own game

Unreal University’s creator demonstrates a Claude-assisted recreation of their own game, Madja Island.

Unreal University’s creator used their own original game, Madja Island, for a separate Claude experiment. The creator reported that the first attempt took about 30 minutes and used a written description without screenshots. In a later stage, Claude was connected to Unreal Engine through MCP to generate C++ for the project. It was one creator’s demonstration, not a controlled benchmark.
