In other words, the cheaper model is not a stripped-down audio edition. It mainly gives up charging flexibility, the case speaker and stem-based volume swiping.

The open-ear ANC proposition

The smart features need a closer look. Apple links AirPods 5 to functions including Live Translation and Siri AI, but says full functionality depends on compatible hardware, software, firmware, language and region. Those conditions apply to the feature experience, so buyers should not assume that every intelligent function works identically across every Apple device or market.
