Borderless Gaming’s developer describes DLSS5-NR as a separate, unofficial effect that processes a game’s output through the app’s existing BGFX system. It does not make DLSS 5 a native feature of the game: users install the effect separately, and the developer says it requires no game-file changes or game-specific mod.
How to install and adjust DLSS5-NR
The developer’s instructions call for downloading the effect separately from GitHub, installing it through Borderless Gaming’s effects editor, selecting the DLSS5-NR preset and enabling effects. The shader is not automatically installed with the app’s update.
The developer says the effect runs directly through BGFX rather than forwarding requests to NVIDIA DLLs. Its adjustable controls include strength, lighting, structure, style and processing resolution.
A U.S.-scoped Steam listing snapshot showed the Borderless Gaming app at $6.99. That amount is for the app, not the separately installed DLSS5-NR effect.
External BGFX processing versus native integration
The key difference is where the image processing happens. DLSS5-NR applies an external effect to the game’s output through BGFX. Native integration runs within a game’s rendering pipeline and can use engine data such as motion vectors—information about how objects move between frames.
| Implementation | Processing path | Access to game-engine data |
| Borderless Gaming DLSS5-NR | A separately installed effect processes the game’s output through BGFX. | Processes the output image externally rather than using engine-supplied motion vectors. |
| Native DLSS 5 integration | Integrated into the game’s rendering pipeline. | Can use engine data, including motion vectors. |
That distinction matters: DLSS5-NR is an external image effect, not native DLSS 5 integration into each game.
What the RTX 3090 performance target means
Borderless Gaming’s developer gives an approximate target of around 30 FPS on a GeForce RTX 3090, with performance depending on the game and settings. The developer also describes the shader technology as experimental and says improved driver support for Shader Model 6.10 could bring further frame-rate gains.
