On Oct. 16, 2026, the Generalitat de Catalunya announced a 2026–2028 plan that includes an AI assistant for the Catalan Cybersecurity Agency website and WhatsApp, a separate online police station for fraud complaints, and expanded telephone support through 012. The assistant is planned to help people identify digital scams and answer cybersecurity questions with advice and good practices, according to the Generalitat’s announcement.
Three public routes, different jobs
| Service | Planned role | Access |
| AI assistant | Help identify scams and answer cybersecurity questions | Agency website and WhatsApp |
| Virtual Police Station | Receive online complaints about virtual fraud | Online |
| 012 telephone support | Answer questions about fraud complaints | Telephone |
The assistant is intended to offer guidance, not to file a police complaint. The Generalitat says it may direct someone it identifies as a possible scam victim to the separate Virtual Police Station. The government scheduled that station to begin handling online complaints from November 2026. Its plan also includes expanding 012 support for questions about fraud complaints.
EL PAÍS reported on Oct. 16 that the assistant was expected to start in December 2026 and that users would be able to submit suspicious text messages, emails and websites for assessment. Those are reported plans for the tool, alongside its stated purpose of providing cybersecurity advice.
Steps to take with a suspicious WhatsApp request
The Agència de Ciberseguretat de Catalunya advises calling someone directly to confirm their identity before sending money or making an urgent Bizum payment in response to a WhatsApp message. Its WhatsApp safety guidance also recommends keeping the app updated, enabling two-step verification and avoiding screen-sharing with an unverified caller, since a WhatsApp verification code could become visible.
