A while ago we discussed some of the resources for increasing volume on your computer. The most direct and recommended shortcut is connecting an amplifier between the sound card and speakers, but if that’s not an option, you can “cheat” to some extent with the help of software. One of the most effective programs is DFX Audio Enhancer.
When a user complains about low audio volume on their computer, I understand perfectly. Personally, I consider myself one of those users as my old netbook speakers are on their last legs, and the only alternative I have to hear “something” (music, voices, whatever) is to connect a pair of headphones to the auxiliary output. What is the problem with our audio? Actually, there are several: hardware limitations, weak drivers, low-quality sources, and even missing operating system functions can work against us. At this point, I recommend visiting our previous guide on audio, and if all options are exhausted, maybe it’s time to cheat a little.
DFX Audio Enhancer: A Software Boost
To do this, you need to download a copy of DFX Audio Enhancer. This widget has been on the market for several years, and from the beginning it has offered a series of additional parameters that optimize and/or amplify audio on our PCs. DFX Audio Enhancer is especially recommended in cases where the audio driver doesn’t offer any advanced function, whether general amplification or equalization. At the same time, the widget applies changes system-wide, so its influence extends even to services like YouTube or Spotify. The general options of DFX Audio Enhancer are five (four in the free version), plus its equalizer.
Now, a couple of details: First, the free edition of DFX Audio Enhancer limits the sliders in its functions (maximum is 5), and the only preset enabled is “Light Processing”. Second, its installer comes with a pinch of optional adware, which is not necessary for its operation and can be easily avoided. Even with its artificial barriers, DFX Audio Enhancer makes a difference, but the final result obviously depends on other factors such as hardware and Windows version.
