Following his recent appearance in The Last Jedi, the latest Star Wars film written and directed by Rian Johnson, Mark Hamill expressed dissatisfaction with his character's role, saying that he was not well represented and that Luke's essence always led him to never give up, especially for his loved ones. Perhaps the strongest statement he made was "that's not my Luke".
Initial reaction
After several days of his statements, Mark did not expect these statements to cause such a stir, so he came out to apologize in a tweet:
"I regret having voiced my doubts and insecurities in public. Creative differences are a common element in any project, but they usually remain private. All I wanted was to make a good movie. And I achieved more than that. @rianjohnson made a great movie!"
Controversy and box office
Surely Mark Hamill's intentions were not to destroy Johnson's career, and it is true that The Last Jedi is controversial for other reasons besides Luke's character, but we won't go into details to avoid spoilers.
However, despite everything, The Last Jedi grossed almost 800 million dollars, and given its short time in theaters, it could surpass its predecessor, The Force Awakens, which is at 2 million.
