After being amazed by Mario is Unreal, which showed how Mario might look in Unreal Engine 4, it's now Pokémon's turn to receive the same treatment. A fan has created a fascinating recreation that you won't want to miss.

In this video, YouTube user CryZENx has taken the time to create a recreation using Unreal 4. The almost four-minute video shows the models of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, the three starter Pokémon from Pokémon Red & Blue, rendered with the power of the new generation. We mainly see Charmander traversing a vast landscape and unleashing flamethrower attacks on animals that flee in terror from the fire-type Pokémon.

At first glance, you might think it's a new open-world Pokémon game, but nothing could be further from the truth. CryZENx clarified that this is just a hobby. On his YouTube channel, you can see videos of games like The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Mario recreated with Unreal Engine 4. For this project, CryZENx used the models and animations from PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure on the Wii.

In nearly two decades, we've seen a detailed graphical evolution in Pokémon games across Nintendo's handhelds and consoles, but not even the Wii U has shown such splendid graphics as those seen in CryZENx's fascinating demo. Perhaps one day Nintendo will deign to surprise us with a title that satisfies our visual hunger, allowing us to appreciate the design of each Pokémon in luxurious detail. For now, if you want to enjoy a graphical showcase of your favorite pocket monsters, you'll have to travel to Japan to play the recent Pokkén Tournament.
