This year DC Comics has two movies in store for us. The first is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which hits theaters soon. Meanwhile, the second movie is Suicide Squad, the team of antiheroes that surprises us once again with a new trailer.
The Story
The story of Suicide Squad begins when Amanda Waller, a US government official, decides to assemble a Task Force with the most dangerous criminals on the planet. This team of antiheroes, known as Suicide Squad, is made up of well-known villains from the DC Comics universe: Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Boomerang, El Diablo, and Killer Croc. Under Waller's orders, the team must carry out a series of high-risk covert operations in exchange for commuted prison sentences. If any of them tries to rebel, a micro-bomb implant in their head will explode.

In this version of Suicide Squad, Rick Flag joins the team as its leader, along with Enchantress, a powerful sorceress whose powers caught Waller's attention, and Katana, an expert in martial arts and the use of the Soultaker sword, who will be Rick's bodyguard. The Joker will also make an appearance in a more psychopathic version of the character compared to Heath Ledger's anarchist portrayal. Another interesting detail is the appearance of Ben Affleck, who will reprise his role as Batman from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Influences
In general, the film takes several elements from the Suicide Squad comic (vol. 4 - 2011), where scenes such as Harley Quinn's origin can be seen. The animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham was also a great help in making Suicide Squad and is an excellent entry point to familiarize yourself with this team of antiheroes.
Cast and Release
The film stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Cara Delevingne, Ike Barinholtz, and Scott Eastwood, among others. Produced by DC Entertainment, RatPac Entertainment, and Atlas Entertainment, the film is written and directed by David Ayer (Sabotage, Fury). Suicide Squad will hit theaters in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on August 5, 2016.
