The Superheroes of Comic-Con 2016

And another edition of the famous Comic-Con convention has come to an end. Marvel and DC Comics bet everything on the new universe of superhero movies and series, which we show you below with the trailers that shined at Comic-Con 2016.

As every year, Comic-Con surprises us minute by minute with trailers for upcoming movies and series. On one side, DC Comics presents the trailers for the movies that make up the DC Extended Universe. Meanwhile, Marvel Comics continues with the series that are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plus the trailer for the new Doctor Strange movie. But don't waste a second and enjoy the best trailers of Comic-Con 2016.

DC Extended Universe

Suicide Squad: The most dangerous team, composed of the world's worst supervillains, is ready to debut soon in theaters. Suicide Squad is the third installment of the DC Extended Universe, which begins when a government agency, led by Amanda Waller, decides to assemble a team of prisoners, provide them with the most powerful arsenal the government has, and send them on a dangerous mission in exchange for clemency and, incidentally, save the world from an unknown threat. The Suicide Squad is composed of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Boomerang, El Diablo, Killer Croc, Enchantress, and Slipknot. We will also see the Joker interfere in their plans, as well as the presence of Batman (the same from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). The film features a cast led by Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, among others. Produced by DC Entertainment and directed by David Ayer (Fury), Suicide Squad will be released on August 5, 2016.

We already saw her shine in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and for next year we'll see her in action again in her own movie. Wonder Woman is destined to be the fourth installment of the DC Extended Universe, where we'll learn the origin of princess Diana, leader of the Amazons, who was raised on an island and trained to be an invincible fighter. In the trailer we see the first meeting between Diana and Steve Trevor, an American pilot who just crashed on the island. Steve tells her about the world war that is breaking out and Diana decides to leave her home to try to stop the conflict. The film features a cast led by Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, and Robin Wright, among others. Produced by DC Films and directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster), Wonder Woman will be released on June 2, 2017.

Justice League: Finally, the fifth installment of the DC Extended Universe marks the formation of the Justice League. Following the plot presented in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince begin the search and recruitment of a team of metahumans to face a new threat. Here Barry Allen, a forensic investigator known as The Flash who can move at superhuman speeds, comes into action; Aquaman, the current king of Atlantis, who has the power to communicate with other marine species around him; and Cyborg, a college athlete who after a fatal accident is rebuilt with mysterious technology thanks to his father, being half man and half machine. The film features a cast led by Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher, among others. Produced by DC Films and directed by Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Justice League will be released on November 17, 2017.

Marvel

Luke Cage: The third series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming. Luke Cage is based on the character of the same name from Marvel Comics, who already appeared in the series Jessica Jones. Here we will learn the origins of this character, who after a sabotaged experiment is left with great resistance and unbreakable skin. Luke is now an ex-convict who fights crime in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York. Mike Colter returns to play Luke Cage while the rest of the cast consists of Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley, and Sônia Braga. Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, Luke Cage will consist of thirteen episodes and will be available in full on Netflix starting September 30, 2016.

Iron Fist: The fourth series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Iron Fist. Based on the character of the same name from Marvel Comics, Iron Fist tells the story of superhero and martial arts master Danny Rand, who returns to New York City after having disappeared for years to combat the corruption that lies there. Finn Jones plays Danny Rand / Iron Fist, with a cast that includes Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, and Tom Pelphrey. Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, Iron Fist will consist of thirteen episodes and will be available in full on Netflix sometime in 2017.

The Defenders: Finally, the superheroes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist form the team The Defenders to save New York City. To the rhythm of "Come as You Are" by Nirvana, a brief teaser confirms the participation of the four superheroes, each starring in their own series, but little else is known about the plot itself. The series will be starring Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock / Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand / Iron Fist). The Defenders will be available in full on Netflix sometime in 2017.

Doctor Strange: The Third Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Captain America: Civil War. Now comes the second film of this phase where we will meet Stephen Strange, the world's most important neurosurgeon, but after a car accident his career is ruined. Now Strange embarks on a healing journey, where he meets a mysterious being called the Ancient One, who will teach him the world of mystical arts, turning him into Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch will play Stephen Strange / Doctor Strange, with a cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton. Produced by Marvel Studios and directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us from Evil), Doctor Strange will be released on November 4, 2016.
