Every emulation platform tends to adopt a “favorite game” that, unsurprisingly, is usually the most popular title of the console it emulates. In the case of the Wii U, that is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and with the help of the Cemu emulator, developers and fans alike have made extraordinary progress.
On the original PlayStation, it was the Gran Turismo franchise and Metal Gear Solid. On the Nintendo 64, we must talk about Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64. The Game Boy and Nintendo DS consoles are defined by the Pokémon saga. And Wii U emulation efforts obviously focus on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Considering the impact of Link's new adventure on Nintendo Switch sales, its emulation under Wii U was inevitable. I imagine that in the not too distant future, the Switch itself will have to bow to emulators, but for now it is not necessary. Why? Because the Cemu emulator supports optimization packs, and one of the most recent turns Breath of the Wild into a festival of colors, shadows, and high-definition textures.
Clarity FX: A Visual Overhaul
The pack is called Clarity FX, and the most interesting aspect of the comparison is that it does not pit the mod against the Wii U, but against the Nintendo Switch. Granted: the new console's result is not bad considering its specifications, but when those chains are cut, Breath of the Wild becomes a titan that would easily qualify as a candidate for game of the year on PC. On the other hand, I admit that in certain scenes the color saturation is too intense; however, Clarity FX allows adjusting that and other aspects.
Installation Challenges
The problem is that installing the pack is not very user-friendly. It requires at least version 1.3.0 of Breath of the Wild, and updating games through Cemu requires an extra tutorial.
