A Premiere Date and a Countdown
Fox has finally revealed the premiere date of the new miniseries: January 24, 2016. Yes, we know there's still a long wait—exactly two hundred days. Does that number ring a bell? It's the same number of episodes the series had across its nine seasons between 1993 and 2002 (two hundred two episodes precisely). To mark the occasion, Fox will air the entire series again in the United States, one episode per day, until the day the new miniseries premieres.

But the surprise comes at the end of the video, where a few seconds of what's new in The X-Files can be seen. Filming began on June 8 and will run until August 22. Series creator Chris Carter revealed that the plot of this miniseries has no connection to the comic series, and there will be two episodes of the so-called "monsters of the week." Apparently, in one of them, agents Mulder and Scully will be investigating another alien abduction case, while in another episode the story centers on a normal man by day who turns into a terrible beast at night. A werewolf, perhaps?
Cast and Production
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, alongside Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) and William B. Davis (The Smoking Man), who are also returning. Among the new cast are Joel McHale (Community), Annet Mahendru (The Americans), and Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords). Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and directed once again by Chris Carter, this new season of The X-Files will consist of six episodes and will air on Fox starting January 24, 2016.
