A Reddit user reported that an MSI GeForce RTX 5080 16G VENTUS 3X stopped working during an unofficial DLSS 5 test in a heavily modded version of Grand Theft Auto V. The reported sequence links the failure in time to the test, but does not identify its cause.

What happened during the test

The user said the card had worked normally for about a month. On the second day of testing, after roughly five minutes of play at about 80 frames per second, the screen reportedly showed artifacts and violent flashing before freezing.

The computer reportedly would not boot with the RTX 5080 installed. After the user removed it, the system started using integrated graphics. The user later reported receiving a replacement RTX 5080.

The reported timing does not identify a cause

The account places the failure during the unofficial test, but the sequence alone does not show what caused the card to stop working. It is a report of one incident, not a technical diagnosis linking DLSS 5 to physical damage.

A separate RTX 5080 demonstration in God of War Ragnarök recorded a drop from roughly 120–130 FPS to about 35–40 FPS with DLSS 5 at 5008 × 1256. The card remained operational during that demonstration; those performance figures describe that setup, not the card in the reported failure.

DLSS 5 in GTA V was community-injected

The reported GTA V setup used community tools, including the ReoDx wrapper, to inject DLSS 5 into a modded game. It was not the official game implementation identified in NVIDIA’s announcement.

In an announcement dated September 1, 2026, NVIDIA identified NBA 2K27 as DLSS 5’s debut official implementation. That announced game and the community-injected GTA V test are distinct uses of the technology.
