A hands-on report published October 6, 2026, described little improvement over emulation and substantial graphical artifacts in its Steam Deck test of bbport. The project is an experimental Linux effort for Bloodborne, and its graphics path still relies on a renderer derived from shadPS4.
What the Steam Deck test reported
The report’s finding was qualitative: it described substantial visual artifacts and little improvement over emulation. It did not establish a general performance result for every Steam Deck setup.
Gameplay footage of Bloodborne on a Steam Deck OLED shows several configurations: FSR 3 Performance, FSR 3 Quality, no upscaling, and LSFG-VK 2X. It offers a look at those settings in use, rather than a controlled comparison between them.
How bbport handles CPU and graphics
bbport targets the PS4 version of Bloodborne identified as CUSA03173, v1.09, on x86-64 Linux. Its approach splits the work between the game’s CPU code and its graphics: the project says the original x86-64 code runs directly, while a game-specific runtime implements the PS4 system-library functions the game calls.
Graphics take a different route. bbport translates them to Vulkan through a heavily modified renderer and shader recompiler derived from shadPS4. In other words, direct CPU execution does not mean the graphics are handled by a wholly native renderer.
For Steam Deck, the project lists a 1280×720 output resolution. That keeps the game’s 16:9 image within the Deck’s 1280×800 screen, leaving thin bars.
Listed upscalers and project limits
bbport lists FSR 3.1, FSR 4, and FSR 4.1.1. The project describes itself as experimental and playable, but says a complete play-through has not been verified. Its only thoroughly tested configuration is a Linux PC with an AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and Mesa/RADV.
Those details put the Deck report in context: the project has been tried on the handheld, but its documented thorough testing centers on a different PC configuration. The report’s qualitative observation does not supply a frame-rate figure.
The DLSS demonstration used a different build
A separate modified shadPS4 demonstration showed Bloodborne rendered at 360p and upscaled to 4K with DLSS preset L. That demonstration concerned modified shadPS4, not bbport; bbport’s listed upscalers are FSR versions.
