Apple announced on October 31 that its first Apple Intelligence features are planned for China, with developer testing scheduled to begin November 4, 2026, and public availability planned alongside iOS 27.3 in December. Both dates are future milestones in Apple’s schedule, not completed releases. Apple’s announcement sets out the first-wave features, eligible iPhones and selected roles for Alibaba’s Qwen.
NeoTeo previously covered the reported December target in its earlier Apple Intelligence coverage. Apple’s October announcement adds the beta schedule and details what the initial release is intended to include.
What Apple plans to include in the first wave
Apple lists features across translation, writing, photos, Mail, notifications, Notes and Siri. The announced set includes Live Translation; Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading and summarizing; Visual Intelligence; Clean Up and Genmoji; natural-language search and memory movies in Photos; Priority Mail, mail summaries and Smart Reply; notification summaries and Priority Notifications; Reduce Interruptions; summaries of Notes audio transcriptions and call transcripts; and Type to Siri.
Apple says its own generative models drive Apple Intelligence. Qwen is available in selected experiences through Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence. Siri can call on Qwen for certain requests, and users can ask about photos and documents, including PDFs and presentations. That makes Qwen one option within parts of the announced experience, not the stated engine for the full suite.
What Alibaba says about Qwen controls
Xinhua reported that Alibaba says users can choose whether to enable the Qwen integration and what information to share. Alibaba also says it will not use requests or generated responses to train its models. These are statements attributed to Alibaba.
Which iPhones and settings Apple names
Apple lists iPhone 16 and later, iPhone Duo, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone Air for the initial core features. It names English and Simplified Chinese as the device and Siri language options.
For Live Translation through AirPods, Apple lists AirPods 5, AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation, AirPods Pro 2 and later, or AirPods Max 2 with the latest firmware. They must be paired with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
Separately, Xinhua reported two routes for access in China: buying an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone in China, or having both the device location and the Apple Account country or region set to China.
What is outside the initial release
Apple says the first China release will not include Siri AI or the other next-generation Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC 2026. Apple also says support for other platforms will follow after necessary approvals; it did not give a schedule for that support.
