Automatic text translation is a feature already fully integrated into the major browsers on the market, but when it comes to translating the text of an image, you have to work a little harder. The alternative is to download a copy of the Yandex browser, which in version 21.3.1 includes an image translation tool based on the Yandex Translate engine. As always, the results are not perfect, but it can only improve from here.
One of the first things Google Chrome offers when entering a page in a different language is an automatic translation of its content. We know very well that Google Translate interpretations can be very strange sometimes, but the final result is good enough to get by.
However, nothing like that when viewing images. Think of a program's error message, or a photographed advertisement. Such translation features are usually available on mobile devices, but the desktop has been left behind... until now. The developers of the Yandex browser decided to incorporate in their latest build a tool to translate the text of an image, and overall, it works very well.
How to translate text from an image with Yandex Browser
The first step is to download the latest version of Yandex Browser. I understand that some users have certain reservations regarding the privacy of the browser, but in practice, its direct competitors are not much better, shall we say, and nothing stops you from installing a copy inside a virtualizer.
Once installed, make sure that the translation feature is activated in its settings, although the button does not always appear automatically. Luckily, that is not a problem: Open the image to translate in a tab, right-click on it, and choose the option Translate Image. In a few seconds, the translation will appear "edited" over the image.
Although there are isolated situations where the browser does not correctly detect the content, this feature to translate the text of an image adds much more than it subtracts, and I imagine it will not be long before we see something similar in other browsers, at least without the help of extensions.
