Híbridos y Eléctricos reported that six Chinese suppliers accounted for 56.4% of battery capacity installed in electrified vehicles sold outside China from January through September 2026, citing SNE Research data. The reported share was 43.1% in the comparable period a year earlier. The figures cover a 426.7 GWh market that grew 24.7% year over year.

What the 56.4% share measures

The figure is the six suppliers’ combined share of battery capacity installed in electrified vehicles sold outside China. It does not describe the location of battery factories or the share of vehicles sold in China. The companies named are CATL, BYD, Gotion, Svolt, CALB and EVE Energy.

The reported change from 43.1% to 56.4% works out to 13.3 percentage points, or about 30.9% relative growth from the earlier share. Applying 56.4% to the reported 426.7 GWh market total implies roughly 240.7 GWh for the six suppliers combined. These are calculations from rounded figures, not separately reported measurements.

To make sense of a battery-market percentage, check both what is being counted and where the vehicles were sold.

CATL and BYD led the reported supplier figures

The report put CATL first in the market outside China, with BYD third behind LG Energy Solution. CATL and BYD together accounted for 44.5% of the measured market. The figures below cover January–September 2026.

Supplier or groupInstalled capacityMarket shareYear-over-year change in installed volume
CATL143.7 GWh33.7%+46.7%
BYD45.9 GWh10.8%+66.8%
LG Energy Solution, SK On and Samsung SDI combined113 GWh26.5%−13.5%

The three South Korean suppliers’ combined share was 38.2% in the year-earlier period, compared with 26.5% in 2026. Their reported installed volume also fell year over year. Gotion’s volume rose 153.8%, and EVE Energy’s rose 214.6%.

Europe, LFP batteries and CATL’s Debrecen plant

CATL accounted for 96.8 GWh of installed capacity in Europe during the same nine-month period, up 35.4% year over year. Híbridos y Eléctricos also reported that two lines at CATL’s Debrecen, Hungary, plant began trial production in September 2026; Mercedes-Benz and BMW were named as intended customers.

The reported share of LFP batteries, which use lithium iron phosphate chemistry, outside China rose from 15.8% to 27.7% over a year. That chemistry measure describes battery installations, while the supplier shares describe how much installed capacity was attributed to particular companies.

Other China battery percentages count different things

An IEA assessment put about 85% of global cell-manufacturing capacity in China in 2024. That measures where manufacturing capacity was located, rather than which suppliers provided batteries for vehicles sold outside China.

A separate ICEX summary of China’s battery energy-storage market reported that China accounted for 56% of new global battery energy storage system (BESS) installations in 2024. BESS refers to stationary systems that store electricity. This figure concerns energy storage installations, not batteries installed in vehicles during 2026.
