Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant, has just awakened after thousands of years and is disillusioned with the world as he finds it. His mission? To cleanse the planet of humanity and create a new world order. The X-Men are preparing to face this new threat in the trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse.
Apocalypse's Awakening
From the dawn of civilization, Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant, was worshipped as a god—just look at the post-credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he is shown being praised by a large crowd. Accumulating the powers of many other mutants, he became an immortal and invincible being. But when Apocalypse awakens after several millennia, he is disillusioned with the world he finds, and he recruits a team of mutants to cleanse humanity and create a new world order over which he will reign. With the fate of the Earth at stake, Raven, with the help of Charles Xavier, must lead a team of young X-Men to save humanity.
Charles will once again have the help of Moira MacTaggert, a CIA agent who appeared in X-Men: First Class. At his side, several mutants will make their return, such as Beast, Havok, and Quicksilver. You can also catch glimpses of the younger versions of Scott Summers (Cyclops), Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, and the presence of a new mutant, Jubilee. On the other side, Apocalypse has gathered four powerful mutants to be his new Horsemen: Elizabeth Braddock (Psylocke), Ororo Munroe (Storm), Warren Kenneth Worthington III (Archangel), and an old acquaintance, Erik Lehnsherr, the powerful Magneto. An interesting detail that can be seen at the end of the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer—and which will surely be explained in the plot—is the reason for Charles's baldness (in case anyone is interested).
The Cast and Release Date
The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, and Lucas Till, among others. Directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and written by Simon Kinberg (Fantastic Four), X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in 3D and 2D theaters on May 27, 2016.
