In a 43-GPU test of Gears of War: E-Day, the RTX 5090 was the only card to clear a 60 FPS average at native 4K with Ultra settings. The RTX 4090 fell just short. At 1080p and 1440p, the same test pointed to less demanding GPU options for a roughly 60 FPS target.

Native 4K Ultra pushed most tested GPUs below 60 FPS

The RTX 5090 was the sole card to average more than 60 FPS at native 4K Ultra in the 43-GPU test; the RTX 4090 came close but did not reach that mark. The result is specific to that resolution, preset, and average-FPS measure.

GPU guidance for 1080p and 1440p

The test’s recommendations shift with resolution. Each row below reflects native resolution, Ultra settings, and an approximate 60 FPS target.

Resolution and presetTargetReported GPU guidance
Native 1080p, UltraAbout 60 FPSRTX 5060 as a minimum current-generation choice; RX 9060 XT or RTX 5060 Ti preferred
Native 1440p, UltraAbout 60 FPSRX 9070 GRE or RTX 5070 near the threshold; RX 9070, RX 9070 XT, or RTX 5070 Ti recommended for more headroom

These are recommendations from a benchmark, tied to its stated test conditions.

What the RTX 3060 scaling results show

At 1080p with DLSS Quality, the RTX 3060 averaged 61.9 FPS on Medium, with a 48.9 FPS 1% low. That second figure reflects slower frame delivery and can reveal dips that the average alone hides.

The same test recorded these averages across its five presets: 70.7 FPS on Low, 61.9 on Medium, 57.1 on High, 48.1 on Ultra, and 32.3 on Ludicrous. The 1% lows were 48.8, 48.9, 40.0, 38.6, and 26.2 FPS, respectively. Every figure here uses the RTX 3060 at 1080p with DLSS Quality.

Ray tracing, RTX Mega Geometry, and the Ludicrous preset

A 35-GPU benchmark review covers performance results, VRAM use, ray tracing and upscaling, with much of its analysis focused on the Ludicrous preset.

Ray tracing remains active at every graphics preset in Gears of War: E-Day. The game also supports DLSS, FSR, XeSS, and Unreal TSR upscaling. RTX Mega Geometry is selectable on GeForce cards with at least 12 GB of VRAM; one test estimated an approximately 10% performance cost on the compatible cards it evaluated.

Ludicrous is a much heavier setting than Ultra. One settings-scaling test measured 49% more performance at Ultra than at Ludicrous. Some players questioned whether Ludicrous reflects ordinary play, while others viewed it as a useful worst-case stress test. The gap helps explain both views: a demanding preset can reveal a performance ceiling without describing the frame rate you should expect at a different setting.

A separate 35-GPU benchmark review examines performance across resolutions, VRAM use, ray tracing, preset scaling, and upscaling. Much of its performance analysis focuses on Ludicrous.
