An unofficial community-tool injection of DLSS 5 in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered brought more facial detail in tested scenes, while a GeForce RTX 5090 path-tracing run fell from 50 FPS to 35 FPS with frame generation off. A separate fixed 6X Multi Frame Generation (MFG) test reported a roughly 26% drop in output frame rate.
The Witcher 3 DLSS 5 test trades facial detail for performance
The reported test used ShortFuse’s DLSS 5 Tool first, then switched to Lecram’s mod. In the tested scenes, the visual assessment found more facial detail, including on Geralt. ShortFuse’s tool also reduced highlights and shifted colors slightly.
Lecram’s mod includes color- and hue-shift controls, as well as three neural-rendering models: “Default,” “Natural” and “Cinematic.” The best fit may vary by scene, and changing models from scene to scene is not convenient during ordinary gameplay. Lecram’s mod estimated neural rendering at about 8.7 ms at full 4K resolution; halving the neural-rendering resolution saved an estimated 3.2 ms, with an image-quality trade-off.
Two RTX 5090 configurations, two different measurements
Both reported performance comparisons used path tracing on a GeForce RTX 5090, but they measured different frame-generation configurations and different frame rates.
| Configuration | DLSS 5 off | DLSS 5 on | Measurement |
| Frame generation off | 50 FPS; 20.0 ms frame time | 35 FPS; 28.6 ms frame time | Base frame rate; about a 30% drop |
| Fixed 6X MFG | 245–247 output FPS | 180–183 output FPS | Generated output frame rate; about a 26% drop |
In a separate Dynamic MFG run targeting a 165 Hz display, the multiplier rose from 4X to 6X when DLSS 5 was enabled. That adjustment masked the underlying rendering cost rather than removing it.
What DLSS 5 officially supports
NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. It uses a rendered game frame and engine data to add neural-rendered lighting and material detail, as a separate stage from Super Resolution and frame generation. The test in The Witcher 3 used community tools; the game has no official DLSS 5 implementation.
In its September 1, 2026 launch announcement, NVIDIA named NBA 2K27 as DLSS 5’s launch implementation. The stated launch scope also covered GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, plus GeForce NOW Ultimate streaming from RTX 5080-powered systems.
