Tizen OS is the operating system used on Samsung Smart TVs. Samsung says eligible TVs can receive free Tizen OS upgrades for up to seven years from the product’s release year, not the date you bought it. Eligibility and available features depend on the model, region, release year and hardware.

That release-year clock gives you a better estimate of a TV’s software-support horizon than its purchase date. Samsung’s example: a 2024 AI TV receives upgrades through 2030.

What a Tizen upgrade can change

Samsung says One UI Tizen upgrades may include operating-system features and changes to the interface, apps, AI and security. The seven-year maximum does not mean every eligible TV will receive every feature: hardware limits can prevent some features from working on certain models.

The upgrade policy also does not promise changes to hardware performance, hardware features or durability. Samsung lists security among the possible update areas.

Check for an update on your TV

English-language tutorial showing the Samsung TV update-menu route; it covers navigation, not the seven-year support period.

To check online, open Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. Samsung says the TV will report whether an update is available, then download and install it and restart when the process is complete. Menu labels may vary by model and software version.

You can also enable automatic updates in the Software Update menu. For a USB update, download the firmware for your exact TV model from Samsung’s Download Center, extract the files to a USB drive, connect it to the TV, then select Software Update > Update Now.
