Google announced on October 22, 2026, that Google Meet voice translation supports 63 languages across the web, Android, and iOS. The Gemini 3.5 Live Translate feature detects the spoken language and translates it into each listener’s preferred language, with captions synchronized to the translated audio when available. Who can use it, and for how long, depends on the plan and meeting setup.

How Meet voice translation works

Meet can translate a conversation that switches between languages or includes several spoken languages. Each participant can choose a language to hear and mark languages they already understand, which Meet will not translate for them. Translation starts off for individual participants when a meeting begins, and each person chooses whether their own speech is translated.

On iOS, open More options, then Captions & translation, and choose a listening language. Participants can also use the meeting’s translation control. Mobile users may need to update the Meet app to get the expanded feature.

Google says it does not store voice data or train models on a user’s voice. Eligible Workspace administrators can turn the feature on or off for their organization, organizational units, or groups, subject to the Gemini for Meet administrator setting.

Which plans and meetings qualify?

Google lists Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra; Workspace Business Standard and Business Plus, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus, and Frontline Plus; Google AI Pro for Education; and AI Expanded Access and AI Ultra Access as eligible plans.

For a scheduled meeting, the host must have an eligible plan. In a direct one-to-one call, either participant can have one. Guests can use translation in a group meeting hosted by an eligible account.

Time limits and unsupported meeting types

The translation cap depends on the plan. Eligible base Workspace plans and Google AI Pro allow up to 90 minutes per meeting. AI Expanded Access, AI Ultra Access, and Google AI Ultra allow up to eight hours.

Eligible plan groupMaximum translation time per meeting
Eligible base Workspace plans and Google AI Pro90 minutes
AI Expanded Access, AI Ultra Access, and Google AI Ultra8 hours

Google does not support speech translation in live streams, recordings, client-side encrypted meetings, dial-in or third-party interoperability calls, or meetings using adaptive audio. Participants using Google Meet hardware can hear translations of remote speakers, but speech from the hardware-enabled room is not translated for other participants.

Google warns that translated speech may be delayed by a few seconds. Translations can contain errors or unintelligible words, and accents or poor connectivity can affect quality.

Google Translate is a separate option for spoken conversations in its mobile app. Meet integrates translation into remote meetings, while Google says its web version of Translate cannot speak and translate simultaneously.

Google’s rollout schedule

Google said the Rapid Release rollout began on October 22, 2026, with the feature taking one to three days to appear. Google scheduled the gradual rollout for Scheduled Release domains to begin on November 2, with visibility taking up to 15 days. These dates describe Google’s rollout channels; they do not establish access for every account or country.
