On November 3, 2026, the Dutch vehicle authority RDW approved Tesla-requested changes that cut the maximum adjustable speed margin in Tesla Assisted Driving from 50% to 10% above the applicable speed limit. The setting defaults to 0% when the vehicle starts, and other speed-related functions are disabled by default. The RDW says the changes cover Tesla models with Tesla Assisted Driving and HW4 or later. RDW’s approval notice
NeoTeo previously covered the European Transport Safety Council’s objections to two FSD speed functions in its report on the request to reject them. The RDW’s November decision sets a new ceiling for the adjustable margin.
What the 10% margin works out to
The RDW defines the margin as the percentage by which the system may deviate from the applicable speed limit when necessary for safety and traffic flow. Applying the former and approved maximums as straight arithmetic gives these examples. They are calculations, not measured or promised vehicle speeds.
| Posted speed limit | Former maximum: +50% | Approved maximum: +10% |
| 30 km/h | 45 km/h | 33 km/h |
| 100 km/h | 150 km/h | 110 km/h |
The startup setting is 0% deviation. The RDW also says other speed-related functions are disabled by default.
Which Tesla vehicles are covered
The RDW says the changes apply to Tesla models equipped with Tesla Assisted Driving and hardware version 4.0 (HW4) or later. Its notice uses Tesla Assisted Driving as the system’s name, replacing FSD Supervised, and says the name change does not alter how the system operates.
The system remains driver assistance, and the driver remains responsible for driving, according to the RDW.
The approval is Dutch, not EU-wide
The RDW incorporated the changes into the existing Dutch type approval under the same conditions and for the same use. It said nine other countries that recognize that approval were informed: Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia. The separate EU-wide process in the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles (TCMV) remained ongoing.
