CATL and Dongfeng signed a group-level cooperation agreement on October 29 focused on an integrated supercharging and battery-swapping ecosystem, CarNewsChina reported on November 3. The agreement comes amid separate reports about CATL’s Shenxing III battery, including a claimed 10% to 80% charge in 3 minutes 44 seconds.

What CATL and Dongfeng agreed to

The reported agreement covers a broader energy ecosystem combining supercharging with battery swapping. CarNewsChina also reported that Dongfeng had been negotiating with CATL since the second quarter of 2026 for first-launch rights to Shenxing III. That account describes the negotiations separately from the October agreement.

CarNewsChina further reported that Voyah, M-hero and Epicland are slated to feature jointly developed supercharging products rated at 10C or higher. The report identifies these as planned products for Dongfeng-associated brands.

Shenxing III’s reported charging times

CarNewsChina reported CATL’s claim that Shenxing III can charge from 10% to 80% in 3 minutes 44 seconds. It also described a full charge in about six minutes at normal temperatures. Separately, Movilidad Eléctrica reported a CATL-presented result of 10% to 98% in 6 minutes 27 seconds, and a claim of 20% to 98% in nine minutes at −30°C.

These figures describe different charge windows. The 3:44 claim ends at 80%; the 6:27 result ends at 98%, while the cold-weather claim starts at 20% and ends at 98%.

CATL’s account of cell design and durability

CATL’s video explains its Shenxing III cell design, heat-management approach and cycle-retention claim.

In its official video, CATL describes a 300 mm cell, compared with 400 mm for common cells. The company says the shorter cell reduces heat generation by 20% and gives the cell’s internal resistance as 0.25 milliohm. CATL also discusses changes to the SEI layer and graphite expansion, alongside cooling and temperature monitoring.

CATL says the battery retains more than 90% of its capacity after 1,000 super-fast-charging cycles. That is the company’s durability claim.

Charging products and the network target

CarNewsChina reported CATL’s target of more than 3,000 integrated charging-and-swapping stations by the end of 2026. The figure is a network target, while the agreement itself is described as cooperation on an integrated charging-and-swapping ecosystem.
