A Yahoo Finance summary of a FreightWaves interview published November 2, 2026, attributes ZET SCALE’s first phase of 2,500 U.S. Class 8 electric trucks to Tesla. An earlier account described Tesla’s share of the procurement as unclear, so the two accounts differ on how many of the trucks are assigned to the company.
The reported first phase and program goal
Cristiano Façanha, Smart Freight Centre’s head of road freight electrification for North America, was the interview source for the November 2 account. It describes 2,500 trucks as the first phase of a program with a reported overall goal of 10,000.
ZET SCALE is jointly run by Smart Freight Centre and Catalyst Mobility, pooling demand from shippers including PepsiCo, Microsoft, IKEA and Red Bull. The summary says Tesla was named primary supplier through a competitive request for proposals (RFP), which assessed price, performance, production capability and maintenance support. Kenworth, Bright/BYD and Volvo were listed as prequalified alternatives for carriers choosing another supplier.
This follow-up builds on NeoTeo’s earlier report on ZET SCALE’s 2,500-truck procurement.
Why the accounts differ on Tesla’s share
An EV-Route report published September 25, 2026, described the procurement as involving multiple suppliers and said Tesla’s share was unclear. The later Yahoo Finance summary attributes the entire first phase to Tesla. Together, the accounts differ on whether all 2,500 trucks in that phase are Tesla vehicles.
The deployment plan and cost estimate
The November 2 summary says the first 2,500 trucks are to be deployed over 18 months. It also attributes to the alliance an estimate that 50% of participating shippers’ freight volume could reach cost parity with diesel. The estimate uses RFP prices and diesel prices from the prior year; its 50% figure applies to freight volume.
Nevada deliveries are a separate report
EV-Route also reported initial series-production Tesla Semi deliveries to customers in Nevada. Its account discussed those deliveries separately from ZET SCALE’s procurement.
