The first film in a new series of independent stories from the Star Wars universe is on its way. Here we’ll see a group of rebel spies on a mission to steal the Death Star plans. Enjoy the first look at the Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, the story of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story focuses on a group of rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans of the Galactic Empire's new weapon, the Death Star (yes, the ones Princess Leia inserts into R2-D2 in the first film). Here we meet Jyn Erso, a young rebel involved in a series of incidents, including imperial document forgery and possession of stolen property, which make her the ideal person to carry out that mission.
The trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story shows young Jyn being recruited by the Rebel Alliance. Soon after, we see her in action fighting imperial soldiers. We also see a group of rebel soldiers facing the powerful AT-ATs (the All Terrain Armored Transports seen in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back). Rogue One is the first film in a new series of independent stories from the Star Wars universe. Here the plot enters new territory, exploring the Galactic Civil War from a ground perspective while keeping the essential elements of Star Wars that fans enjoyed during the original trilogy. That said, don't expect to see Jedi and Sith because you won't find them here (at least for now). The film stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Neil Breen, and Alan Tudyk, among others. Produced by Lucasfilm and directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be released on December 16, 2016.
