The Super Bowl once again proved to be one of the most irresistible advertising platforms, drawing in a record audience of 127.7 million American viewers for its latest edition. Each 30-second spot cost more than $8 million, an investment only a select few could afford. Here are the biggest trailers that aired during the historic event.
Smurfs
There seems to be an international decree mandating that each new generation gets a Smurfs movie every five to ten years. This time, the little blue creatures come backed by Rihanna, Nick Offerman, James Corden, Billie Lourd, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman. (July 18)
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Rumor has it that Paramount decided to end the Mission: Impossible saga after the previous installment underperformed at the box office. However, Tom has already stated he has no plans to retire Ethan Hunt. Sequels, prequels, spin-offs, series? We'll find out soon. (May 23)
Jurassic World Rebirth
The Big Game Spot for Jurassic World Rebirth was simply a re-cut of the official trailer we recently shared. Some critics are calling Rebirth 'unnecessary'... but let's be honest: with nearly $4 billion in box office from the last three films, the dinosaurs will keep chasing people… (July 2)
Lilo & Stitch
This isn't exactly a trailer; it's more of a teaser showing the adorable yet destructive alien causing chaos on the field. Something tells me Disney is about to flood us with Lilo & Stitch promotion. This is only the beginning... (May 23)
Novocaine
You might have seen Jack Quaid in Companion, but he's about to lead a new project, Novocaine. The protagonist suffers from congenital analgesia, meaning he can't feel pain, and that condition gets tested when he tries to rescue his girlfriend kidnapped during a robbery. (March 14)
How To Train Your Dragon
Yes, I agree—riding a dragon is far more interesting than killing one. But this teaser is really just promoting the new trailer... which we're also sharing here (hence the two videos). How To Train Your Dragon inevitably joins the live-action adaptation trend, but I have a feeling it'll do just fine... (June 13)
F1
Who wants to see Brad Pitt racing in Formula 1? Well, technically he'll be more of a 'mentor,' and expect a ton of cameos. F1 is a wildcard: Apple shelled out $140 million for distribution rights but only kept the essentials for Apple TV+, selling the rest to Warner, which will bring it to IMAX. (June 25)
Thunderbolts*
They're not super, and they're definitely not heroes, but Bucky seems convinced they're the best shot at saving the world. Add in glimpses of The Void making terrified people vanish, and Thunderbolts* might—just might—deliver a worthy ending to Phase Five. (May 2)
