A report published October 9 said an inquiry in Argentina found no equivalent reports of an iPhone 18 Pro Max cellular outage on Personal, Claro or Movistar. Apple’s October 2 acknowledgment concerned a separate issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T in the United States.
Apple acknowledged an AT&T cellular issue
Apple said the problem could cause a phone to lose cellular service and become unable to make calls. AT&T said calls, data, texts and 911 calls could be affected, and that it was working with Apple.
Apple described the affected group as a small number of users. Its statement named AT&T and the iPhone 18 Pro Max; it did not give a device count.
Updates are intended to prevent further cases
Apple said iOS 27.0.1 and an AT&T carrier-settings update were intended to help prevent the issue. The carrier update was to download automatically for AT&T users with the affected model over 14 days. Users could also check for carrier settings by opening Settings > General > About.
For a phone that had already lost service, Apple said software updates would not restore connectivity and hardware replacement was required. Apple directed customers to Apple Support or AT&T, including either company’s retail locations.
What the Argentina inquiry found
The inquiry’s October 9 finding covered Personal, Claro and Movistar in Argentina. It found no equivalent reports on those three networks; that result describes the inquiry’s scope, rather than every carrier or device in the country.
The modem difference does not identify the cause
The U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max is reported to use Qualcomm Snapdragon X80, while versions sold outside the United States use Apple C2. Apple did not identify the technical cause of the AT&T service issue.
