What Valve’s October page lists
Valve’s October page puts Steam Frame at 5.49% and PS VR2 at 2.41% of the VR-headset category. Its historical chart lists Steam Frame at 0.55% for September. The page also puts Steam users with VR headsets at 1.75% of all surveyed users. (Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey)
Within that survey category, Steam Frame’s listed share is higher than PS VR2’s. The figures describe headset use among Steam survey respondents; they do not measure the whole VR market.
The November 2 reports listed different figures
Reports published November 2 gave Steam Frame a 4.13% share for October, up 3.72 percentage points, and listed September at 0.41%. Those readings differ from the 5.49% and 0.55% currently shown on Valve’s October page.
What the percentages measure
Valve describes its survey as a monthly, optional and anonymous collection of information about the hardware and software its customers use. The 5.49% figure is Steam Frame’s share of the survey’s VR-headset responses. It is not a count of headsets sold.
Valve lists Steam users with VR headsets at 1.75% of all survey respondents. Multiplying the two published shares, 5.49% × 1.75%, gives about 0.096% of all respondents. That is an approximate calculation from rounded percentages, not a reported unit count.
