But the DIY movement is quite advanced in some spaces, and that includes electric motorcycles. Every creator can pour their own vision into the design, and that's how we arrive at James Biggar's channel. His homemade electric motorcycle is heavier than normal (courtesy of a huge battery pack), but it's very stable, and develops good speed without sacrificing range.

Many people are convinced that the next "transport revolution" will be personal. No sedans or compacts, but individual vehicles. Some cities went all-in on bicycles, with expanding programs, and companies that collapse. But we shouldn't forget electric variants, both bicycles and motorcycles. A conversion kit costs around 400 euros, while a compact e-bike (under 120 kg) has a similar price. On the motorcycle side, the minimum investment doesn't go below 1,600 euros, as long as we accept models from China.

Now, if you think those offers aren't right for you... the truth is nothing prevents you from building your own electric motorcycle, beyond natural budget restrictions. And yes, there's a YouTube channel for that. Last June, James Biggar built a lightweight electric motorcycle based on wood. The total cost was 2,000 Canadian dollars, and he published the plans on his official page (10 Canadian dollars). This time, he decided to set aside the "light" variant and build a more robust and heavier electric motorcycle.

The video highlights some very interesting points. For example, the rear suspension DNM Burner-RCP 2S is often recommended for DIY electric motorcycle projects, but it's too small for Biggar's motorcycle. The same happens at the front: It's enough for testing, but suggests a stronger and more complete suspension. Why? The battery pack is enormous, 36 kilograms of pure LiFePo that guarantee a range of 100 kilometers on normal terrain.

The plans for this new electric motorcycle are also for sale, at the same price. The digital package includes a list of materials and tools, drawings with dimensions, and a CAD model made in Sketchup. It's evident that building this electric motorcycle requires extensive workshop experience, from welding to working on fiberglass. But if you take it easy and advance a bit each week... why not?
